Harvest House Challenge

Sunday, July 19th, 2009

Graceland girls are all about saving money! It started a few months ago when Keri Hughes taught a class on organizing & using grocery coupons. Now we are blessed with a huge abundance of coupons in the kitchen because someone brings us stacks & stacks every week! It has been fun to share our big savings stories with each other (kinda like guys with their “fish” stories).

Well, now I want to challenge you to transfer these savings into helping others. There is a ministry that Graceland is a part of that changes the lives of many in Bartow County…it’s called Harvest House. Harvest House gives FREE groceries to hundreds of people every Thursday. This ministry depends on the donations of the church to supply the food. So, here’s my challenge…use your coupons to bless others! I try to spend $5 a week for Harvest House, & I make it fun by seeing how much I can get for what I would normally spend on one fast food meal. This week is triple coupon week at Ingle’s (they will triple every coupon up to $.50) so I spent 2 hours walking every aisle with my favorite shopping buddy (which is not Eric…if you know him at all, you know he hates shopping). I got $146 worth of groceries for $58!!! Now, let meDSCN1960 tell you what I was able to get for Harvest House (see pic):

  • 4 boxes of Betty Crocker fruit snacks…$.59 per box
  • 2 boxes of Betty Crocker Suddenly Salad …$.39 per box
  • French’s Worcestershire Sauce…FREE
  • 2 Knorr Pasta Sides packets…FREE
  • French’s honey mustard…FREE
  • 2 boxes of Band Aids (40 ct.)…$.68 per box
  • Lawry’s garlic salt…FREE
  • Pillsbury yellow cake mix…FREE
  • Cheerios snack mix…FREE
  • 4 Betty Crocker Warm Delights microwavable dessert…$.16  each

GRAND TOTAL SPENT : $5.08 !!

I hope that you’ll join me in supporting this fabulous ministry. We keep a grocery cart in the lobby of Graceland for you to bring your items. You may not be into the coupon thing. If not, how about throwing a couple of dollars into one of the tithe envelopes & marking it for Harvest House? I promise that anything you give is used to minister to those in need.

Hey, if you have any tips to add to this, please leave a comment!!
